Supplier Lead Time Reliability Analysis

Data Analytics
Project Overview
The client’s production planning was frequently disrupted by inconsistent supplier delivery times. The absence of a structured performance tracking method made it difficult to predict incoming materials and plan operations efficiently. This project aimed to analyze supplier lead times, quantify reliability, and propose improvements to enhance supply chain stability.
Problem Statement
Material deliveries from suppliers often deviated from scheduled lead times, causing unplanned downtime, excess safety stock, and urgent reordering. The client lacked a systematic way to measure or visualize supplier performance, relying instead on anecdotal evidence and spreadsheets without trend insights.
Solution
We collected and analyzed historical delivery data from all key suppliers, focusing on metrics such as:
Actual vs. promised delivery dates
Lead time variance (standard deviation)
Frequency of early/late deliveries
Impact on production scheduling
Using these metrics, we developed a Supplier Reliability Index (SRI) — a scoring model combining delivery accuracy, responsiveness, and consistency.
The analysis was visualized through a Power BI dashboard with automated insights highlighting high-risk suppliers.
Finally, we created actionable recommendations, such as revising delivery agreements, improving supplier communication channels, and adjusting safety stock levels for low-reliability vendors.
Result
Clear visibility into supplier performance through automated dashboards.
Reduced planning uncertainty by prioritizing reliable suppliers.
Improved communication and accountability via performance-based reviews.
Strategic sourcing insights for future supplier selection and contract renegotiation.
